OBJECTIVE

The ideal candidate will provide carpentry services and job site assistance to the lead carpenter.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • A good understanding of rough and finish carpentry methods and techniques.
  • Refined carpentry skills and the ability to interact well with subcontractors and clients.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and understand plans, specifications, work orders, change orders, and all other carpentry-related job documents.
  • Perform rough and finish carpentry to Construct’s high-quality standard according to the plans and specifications.
  • Bring discrepancies and special conditions to the attention of the lead carpenter on the job.
  • Implement and help other workers to implement the job site rules.
  • Maintain a safe and clean job site.

TOOLS REQUIRED

  • Skill saw Sabre saw
  • Chop saw Reciprocating saw
  • 3/8” drill Cordless drill
  • Router Random orbital sander
  • Belt sander small table saw
  • Grounded extension cord Saw horses
  • Drywall screw gun Small power plane
  • Compound mitre saw
  • A complete set of woodworking hand tools, i.e., chisels, saws, drill bits, blades, planes, router bits, screwdrivers, etc.

You are encouraged to purchase additional tools. Construct has a tool purchase incentive program. Once hired, please consult the Construct Policy and Procedures Manual, “Purchase Policy for Additional Tools.”

SPECIAL NOTE

The Field Carpenter may also be required to perform any of the other functions and job descriptions in the policy manual. It is the responsibility of all employees to read and understand all the job descriptions and job site rules and to be prepared to perform all tasks described. Additional compensation, incentives, or bonuses will be a function of the job size and type and will be discussed and formalized in writing at the beginning of the job.

OBJECTIVE

The ideal candidate will provide computer and/or hand drawings as needed for design projects, kitchen cabinet pricing & ordering, order tracking and follow-up, and estimating as needed for bidding.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Work hours will be 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM – Monday through Friday. This time allows you to take a 30-minute lunch break (non-paid) and two fifteen-minute breaks (paid).
  • Strong communication, organizational, CAD, estimating, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of construction methods and techniques.
  • A basic understanding of all trades relevant to the project.
  • Excellent social skills for interaction and communication with partners, clients, lead carpenters, and subcontractors.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the scope of the work.
  • Prepare drawings for new projects.
  • Complete structural designing. This shall include site measurements, design edits and changes, final design, several generations of drawings, and meetings with clients and/or partners.
  • The drawings should include foundation plans, floor plans, door and window schedules, elevations, and detailed section drawings. The partners assume this will be done in Vector Works.
  • Process information about jobs as soon as possible after meeting with clients.
  • Prepare specifications for projects using a computer. This should include all relevant information. These may also go through several iterations.
  • Coordinate special materials orders with partners (i.e., kitchen and windows).
  • Print out plans as the design work is completed. As you complete a day’s work on plans, print the plan for the partners' review. All plans need to be printed well in advance of a partner client meeting.
  • Prepare kitchen designs as well as layouts for custom in-house built cabinets.
  • Search product specifications for design as well as lead carpenter’s use.
  • Job site consultations with lead carpenters as needed.
  • Maintain an organized file that will include a complete set of plans, specifications, estimating documents, engineering reports (if any), and job communications (memos, faxes, etc.).
  • Be familiar with the job descriptions for lead and field carpenters. It is important that the carpenters’ knowledge and skills be respected.
  • The lead carpenters are key to our method of organization.
  • Attend the Tuesday (3:00 PM) meeting to discuss labor requirements and other relevant items.
  • Produce weekly work schedule immediately following the Tuesday partner meeting.

POSITION DEVELOPMENT

  • Prepare bids for projects using Master Builder.
  • Shop material prices as necessary,
  • Get bids from subcontractors and review the budget with relevant partners.
